Breakfast of champions

Today – like any self-respecting elite athlete – I’m carb loading before a big event. Except somewhat pathetically my big event happens to be a party tonight.

In my defense this event is huge – there’s usually more that 1,000 people, it’s outside in the sweltering heat, the kids are invited (which adds a whole different level of terror & complexity) and I have never, ever seen anything vegan to eat there.

Not that you really have time to eat – between the small talk and the kid wrangling I usually forget to. And I’m a complete klutz – if there is cocktail sauce to be spilt on a pretty dress I’m your gal.

So no eating at the party.

But no eating at all during the day? That would be a disaster. I can’t do happy, upbeat small talk on an empty stomach – & I certainly can’t parent mindfully if I’m hangry and irritated.

So this morning’s breakfast was steel cut oats topped with home made Greek soy yogurt, figs, Brazil nuts, walnuts, almonds and fresh mixed berries.

And now – after eating my protein infused porridge – I feel like I can leap tall buildings in a single bound! Ok so maybe not quite that, but i am more confident that I can successfully totter after a tear-away toddler in party dress & heels … 😉
